Dec 12, 2024 - Rep. Nancy Mace introduces bill to block sex offenders from entering emergency shelters
Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) unveiled legislation Thursday aimed at protecting women and children from registered sex offenders in emergency shelters during natural disasters. Mace’s legislation, the Safe Shelters Act, is modeled after the policy in Florida, where the government designates specific buildings or shelters for sex offenders to keep everyone else safe. Under the Safe Shelters Act, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator would be tasked with determining suitable emergency spaces for registered sex offenders. “Except for the purpose of seeking information on designated shelters, a covered sex offender may not enter or use the services of an undesignated shelter,” the bill stipulates.
“Why stop there? All sex offenders should be banned from all shelters also. I’ve got a bill for this.” Her legislation specifically applies to individuals who are in the national sex offender registry. Individuals who knowingly violate the policy could face fines and up to five years behind bars.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is doubling down after proposing to prevent biological men from using women’s facilities at the U.S. Capitol, introducing the Stop the Invasion of Women’s Spaces Act. This measure goes beyond preventing biological men from using women’s facilities at the U.S. Capitol, blocking them from using single-sex spaces for women — restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms — at all federally-funded facilities. “This includes public schools and universities, national parks, government buildings, healthcare facilities such as hospitals and clinics, public housing and shelters, and transportation hubs like airports, train stations, and bus terminals,” a press release from the congresswoman’s office reads.

Dec 12, 2024 - Father of female runner forced to compete with trans male athlete shares fury of situation: 'Can't even digest it'
Father of female runner in California organized a protest by making t-shirts saying “save girls sports” at his daughters races. When they showed up to the high school wearing those shirts, administrators allegedly scolded them over it and compared the shirts to swastikas, according to a lawsuit filed against the school by the families of two girls. "When you have adults that compare a message ‘Save Girls Sports’ that promotes equality, fairness, common sense; when you have adults that compare that message to a swastika, which represents the genocide of millions of Jews, really, there are no words. I don't know how you respond to that," Fleischer said. Hundreds of students at Martin Luther King High School began to wear the T-shirts every Wednesday. The school responded by enacting a dress code that resulted in many of those students being sent to detention. But that didn't stop them. The students kept wearing the shirts weekly.

Dec 13, 2024 - Texas sues New York doctor for telehealth abortion pill prescription
Texas has sued a New York doctor for prescribing abortion pills to a woman near Dallas, launching one of the first challenges in the U.S. to shield laws that Democrat-controlled states passed to protect physicians after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Such prescriptions, made online and over the phone, are a key reason that the number of abortions has increased across the U.S. even since state bans started taking effect. Most abortions in the U.S. involve pills rather than procedures. The lawsuit accuses New York Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter of violating Texas law by providing the drugs to a Texas patient and seeks up to $250,000. No criminal charges are involved.

Dec 6, 2024 - Missouri abortion rights in legal limbo after constitutional protections take effect
An amendment to Missouri’s constitution protecting the right to abortion took effect late on Thursday, two years after the state banned the procedure – but abortions have not yet resumed in the state. The day after Missouri voters supported the measure to amend the constitution, Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state filed a lawsuit asking the court to strike down the state’s near-total abortion ban as well as a raft of other restrictions that, Planned Parenthood said, make it impossible to perform the procedure. In a hearing on Wednesday, the groups asked the Jackson county circuit judge Jerri Zhang to quickly issue an order to freeze the restrictions and allow abortions in the state to resume on Friday.
However, the judge has not acted, and Missouri abortion providers remain in legal limbo, caught between contradictory provisions in the state’s constitution and its statutes. Under the new amendment 3, Missouri residents possess a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom”, including access to abortions until fetal viability.
In November Missouri voters have approved an amendment to the state constitution that will protect reproductive rights.

Andrew Tate, the toxic male influencer, is viewed positively by almost half of young men, according to a new report which warns the number of extreme misogynists or “incels” is growing. In a new review of extremism in Britain, Dame Sara Khan, the government’s former counter-extremism tsar, said there was now “mounting evidence” that hatred of women, and influencers propagating these beliefs, were increasingly “influencing young men as well as encouraging support for extremist beliefs and behaviours”. Khan said, “Nations are increasingly grappling with the rising intolerance of men towards women, which is creating a climate of hate and leading to increased violence against them.

Dec 12, 2024 - Here's what Gov. Andy Beshear said about taxpayers possibly funding gender-affirming care for inmates
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear made it clear Thursday he does not support the idea of using taxpayer dollars to fund gender affirmation surgery for transgender inmates. Proposed changes to Kentucky Department of Corrections rules regarding accommodations for transgender inmates have drawn major criticism from Republicans in the state. "I recognize that LGBTQ inmates may be at a higher risk for violence than other inmates," Beshear said. "However convicted felons do not have the right to have any and all medical surgeries paid for entirely by tax dollars, especially when it would exceed the type of coverage available to law abiding citizens in the private sector. So I do not support all of that draft regulation."

Dec 12, 2024 - Defense bill bans transgender experimental harmful medical coverage for children in military families
The National Defense Authorization Act seeks to prohibit TRICARE health, a healthcare program for families of military service members, coverage for minors seeking “medical interventions for the treatment of gender dysphoria that could result in sterilization.” The bill does not define which interventions would be prohibited. Democrats attempted unsuccessfully to have the provision stricken from the bill.
“It’s really important right now. We improved housing for our military families and other benefits... We banned TRICARE from prescribing treatments that would ultimately sterilize our kids, and we gutted the DEI bureaucracy,” said the Louisiana Republican.
All Democrats present Tuesday opposed a procedural vote, 211-207, to advance the historically bipartisan legislation, but will need to contend with a final vote as early as Wednesday. Congress has enacted the annual package for the last 63 years.
Dec 9, 2024 - Supreme Court declines to intervene in challenge to Wisconsin school district’s transgender policy
In a brief, unsigned order, the justices denied the parents’ request to review the lower court decisions, which conceded that while parents may have “genuine concerns” about a western Wisconsin school district’s gender support plan that allows transgender students to use a different name and pronouns at school without their family’s consent, the parents involved in the lawsuit lack standing to challenge the policy because none of them has a transgender child. That they know of. Since the school is allowed to hide this from the parents, how can they be sure?
In a written dissent, Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said they would have heard the case regardless. “The challenged policy and associated equity training specifically encourage school personnel to keep parents in the dark about the ‘identities’ of their children, especially if the school believes that the parents would not support what the school thinks is appropriate. Thus, the parents’ fear that the school district might make decisions for their children without their knowledge and consent is not ‘speculative.’ They are merely taking the school district at its word,” they wrote. Justice Brett Kavanaugh also said he would have granted the parents’ petition but did not join in the dissent.
Dec 5, 2024 - Free speech now more limited, say self-censoring academics
Free speech on campus has decreased in the past decade, according to a survey of academics. The global poll of university staff found that 77 per cent agreed that free speech was more limited than ten years ago, with only 12 per cent disagreeing and 11 per cent unsure. Those working in the United States felt this particularly strongly, with 83 per cent believing it was the case, while the figure was 80 per cent in the UK. Disciplines such as psychology and clinical health were particularly affected. One British psychology academic explained that it was increasingly difficult to argue with any position deemed contentious by activists, on topics including gender, colonialism, the Israel-Palestinian conflict and neurodiversity because “any diversion from the accepted line is seen as meaning you are a bad person rather than just someone who disagrees”.
