Oct 8, 2024 - United Nations adviser demands mandatory sex testing to protect females in sport
A leading United Nations adviser will call for the return of mandatory sex testing to ensure that the female category in sport is accessible exclusively to those born female. The extraordinary report lays bare the scale of the problem, illustrating how governing bodies’ failure to act on the problem has led to more than 600 female athletes around the world losing over 890 medals in 29 different sports. “There are circumstances in which sex screenings are necessary, legitimate and proportional to ensure fairness and safety in sports. At the Olympics, female boxers had to compete against two boxers whose sex as females was seriously contested, but the IOC refused to carry out screening. Current technology enables a reliable sex screening procedure through a simple cheek swab for non-invasiveness, confidentiality and dignity.”

10 Oct, 2024 - Captain's gender had nothing to do with sinking of New Zealand naval ship, says defence minister
New Zealand's Defence Minister on Thursday publicly criticised online trolling of the female captain of a naval vessel that sunk at the weekend, saying while the cause of the incident was unknown, it had nothing to do with the captain’s sex. The Manawanui, the navy's specialist dive and hydrographic vessel, sank on Sunday on a reef off the coast of Samoa that it was surveying. Its 75 crew and passengers were ordered to abandon the vessel in life rafts and were later rescued.
This is curious given New Zealand doesn’t know that a woman is an adult human female and not something a man can identify as.

Rape victims usually quietly struggle with shame. France’s Gisèle Pelicot is almost single-handedly reversing the script, by putting the shame of rape where it belongs – on the perpetrators of often-invisible crimes. She is also elegantly offering the world a role model of the power of older women, how their mature truth-telling has no time for the judgement, embarrassment or cultural narratives imposed on younger women. Pelicot, at age 72, is giving the world a master class in female leadership – from the courthouse in Avignon in the south of France.

The decision goes into effect at 5 p.m. local time, meaning that most abortions will again be illegal in the state after six weeks of pregnancy after that time. The state Supreme Court's decision, however, left in place the lower court’s ruling blocking a separate provision of the law that had given state prosecutors broad access to the medical records of abortion patients without due process protections.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ), the highest court in the EU, ruled on Friday that women in Afghanistan are subjected to persecution by the Taliban. As such, the court sided with two Afghan women in Austria who had argued their status as women under the Taliban regime justified receiving refugee status. The Austrian court requested clarification as to whether the discriminatory measures against women in Afghanistan could be classified as acts of persecution.
